What's in a (nick)Name?
I get it a lot. Magnum? What the hell kind of a nickname is that....self centered prick.....
Honestly, I'd rather let imagination run wild, let people create stories in their heads- elaborate tales of ... fiction. Being in Europe has awakened me to a whole new world of nicknames- The tradition of nicknames at Luther is a colorful, storied past, filled with confusing monikers, terrible connections, and a few classics that are burned into the mind's eye.
A nickname like Magnum is everywhere. The X37s, Knirpses, Stigs of the world are hard pressed to find equal representation anywhere, whereas a name like Magnum is plastered on any oversized truck, Malt liquor, condom, electric hand dryer, or chocolate ice cream bar in sight.
It's almost a game, keeping track of the slogans and posters- not to mention a few classic ads that I've come across thanks to Magnum (the ice cream bar, not the condom) coming out with a new Ecuador Dark version, 62% cocoa...

um, I hate to admit that I haven't read your blog in a very long time...but I like this entry a lot...and I too have noticed the excessive presence of your nickname here in this foreign land. That is all.
